Empowering Uganda's Young Farmers
Compared to the region’s under-15 population of 43.2% and the world’s under-15 population of 26.8%, Uganda has a remarkably youthful population.
The high fertility rate, youthful population and elderly population present a developmental challenge through the dependency burden, where relatively few employed people support a large dependent population.
According to the State of Uganda Population Report 2025, Uganda has an annual population growth rate of 2.9%, with 45,905,417 people recorded during the 2024 National Population and Housing Census.
Our National Reach
UNYFA covers the country from the national level, where its secretariat is based, through regional young farmers’ committees, district young farmers’ boards, and down to sub-county and parish levels where young farmers’ groups are based.
The country-wide coverage of UNYFA is divided into six regions to strengthen its work of reaching young farmers at the grassroots level.
Strengthening Young Farmers Across Uganda
Each of the six regions has an average of nine districts, enabling UNYFA to coordinate and support young farmers across the country.
Today, UNYFA is one of the strongest young farmers’ associations, rolling out plans and working alongside UNFFE structures from the apex body to the grassroots level through District Farmers’ Associations.
Through this structure, UNYFA continues to strengthen the voice, participation and opportunities of young farmers while ensuring that young people are reached at the grassroots level.
